Share a clip, add a note about why it matters, and the transcript lands in the right notebook, ready to be cited, summarised, and searched.

Three ways. Clippings is built for short-form video and carousels, the things you actually save to learn from, not articles and PDFs with video bolted on. It files into tools you already use, so if you ever cancel, everything already lives in your own accounts. And capture happens in your phone's share sheet, not a desktop app. It's also a fraction of the price: plans start at $5 a month.

No. Clippings is a web app you add to your home screen, one swipe from whatever you're scrolling. There's no App Store download, no desktop app, and nothing to keep updated.

One saved post: a video, or a photo carousel. Videos and carousels are counted separately, because reading the slides of a carousel costs more than transcribing a video — so a carousel never eats into your video allowance. If a clip fails to process it doesn't count against either.

TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, X, and Facebook Reels, plus TikTok and Instagram photo carousels. Extraction from social platforms is best-effort, because they change constantly, so the occasional clip may fail. Failed clips don't count against your quota. If a specific clip keeps failing, let us know.

Both. A carousel has no audio, so Clippings reads the slides instead: the text on every image, in order, becomes the clip, up to fifteen slides. It's filed and searchable exactly like a transcript. Carousels have their own allowance: one to try on the free plan, then 25 a month on Starter and 50 on Pro.

On every plan you connect Clippings to Claude as a connector. Claude can then list your notebooks, search your clips, and read whole transcripts with your notes attached, so you can ask it what six creators agree on, or where they contradict each other. It runs on your Claude plan; Clippings never spends its own AI on the answer. More on Claude.

Yes. Paste a batch of links, add a note or pick a notebook for each, and Clippings files them in the background. The import allowance is on top of your monthly quota, so a backlog never eats the month you're in.

Only for the destinations you use. NotebookLM works with your Google account: Clippings keeps a Google Doc inbox per notebook that NotebookLM syncs as a source. Notion connects in one click and gets its own Clippings database. Obsidian has no account at all: the Clippings plugin in your vault does the syncing. You can also keep everything in Clippings alone.

Install the Clippings plugin from Obsidian's Community plugins, press Connect, and turn Obsidian on in your Clippings settings. Every clip becomes a Markdown note in your vault: properties, your note, the takeaways and the full transcript. Folders, filenames and the note template are yours to set in the plugin. Each notebook you create in Clippings gets its own Google Doc inbox in your Drive. You add that Doc to NotebookLM as a source once: Add source, Google Docs, pick the "Clippings Inbox" Doc. From then on, every clip you save is appended to the Doc and NotebookLM keeps it in sync. No more manual steps. More on NotebookLM.

Almost nothing. Google access uses the drive.file permission, so Clippings can only see and edit the docs it created itself, never your existing files, email, or anything else in your account. Notion works the same way: Clippings writes to its own database and can't read your other pages. Obsidian is stricter still: the plugin writes notes into one folder of your vault and never reads outside it, and nothing from your vault is sent to Clippings. Full details in our privacy policy.

Pick an annual plan and you get 3 days to see if it sticks, with no commitment: cancel inside the trial from the billing portal and you won't be charged. Monthly plans have no trial: a month is short enough to be one, and you can cancel from the portal at any point. Either way, everything you filed stays in your notebooks and destinations. If you want to try Clippings without paying at all, the free plan never expires.

Yes, and it doesn't expire. You get 5 clips to start and one photo carousel to try, then one clip a week for as long as you keep the account — no credit card, nothing to cancel. Free clips are filed into your Clippings library, where they stay searchable and downloadable as Markdown, and you can connect one of NotebookLM, Notion or Obsidian to publish into, plus Claude to read them. A paid plan adds the monthly allowance and every connection at once.

On a paid plan, new clips pause until your next billing cycle. On the free plan they pause until your next weekly clip comes round, which the dashboard names for you. Either way everything already filed stays exactly where it is, and you can move to a bigger plan at any moment to keep clipping.

Yes, from the billing portal, in two clicks. You keep your plan until the end of the period you've paid for, and your notebooks and docs remain yours.
